Retail Asia Publishing (www.retailasiaonline.com) on July 2007 Edition released Retail Asia Pasific Top 500. The list of leading retailer throughout Asia pasific during 2006 which made by Retail Asia Publishing collaboration with Euromonitor International, and KPMG whose global reputation and advisory services.
The list ranked by sales per year. And leader player during 2006 in Indonesia is Carrefour, which reach Rp. 7.2 billion, and occupied 168.000-sqm area. Ramayana in second place with Rp. 4.8 billion with wider sales area, 456.900 sqm. Ramayana also lead in term of outlet number than Carrefour. They have 89 outlets than 24 in Carrefour. It means Carrefour succeed in sales per sqm, Rp. 43 million/year more bigger than Ramayana which reach only Rp. 10,6 Million/year.
Indomaret and Alfamart with categorized C-Store (Minimarket) in the list, placed 4 & 5. It interesting! Why, with different type with Carrefour and Hypermart (owned by Matahari Putra Prima), in fact Indomaret and Alfamart they can compete with Hypermarket.
If we look at Indonesian habit, they will go to Hypermarket for Monthly shopping, and Minimarket/C-store for incidentals. Absolutely they spend money more in Monthly than incidentals. However, the result is surprisingly, Minimarket still got a chance to live, even more head to head with Hypermarket.
In addition, Alfamart performance much better than Alfa Supermarket which both owned by same company. Referring to this, whatever your store type, as long as you can managed well, it will survive, even more than just survive!

Maaf, nama saya wildan. Saya mahasiswa S2 ekonomi di Universitas Indonesia. saya mau tanya kalo data statistik retail di Indonesia dan output penjualannya dari tahun ke tahun ada tidak?saya sangat membutuhkannya untuk bahan tesis saya. Kalau ada di mana saya mendapatkannya?

Agak sulit untuk mendapatkan data-data seperti diminta, karena beberapa hal, yakni data provider [lembaga yang punya data] mengumpulkan data-data tersebut tujuannya adalah komersial alias data-data analisa tersebut untuk dijual kembali. Kalaupun mereka mau membagi ya data yang sifatnya umum sekali.

I still doubt, why Ramayana take nmbr 2 position in your data, so far I know Matahari/Hypermat is bigger than Ramayana,
In this year it could be right. In that article the year is 2007.
